What
Is A Black Newspaper?
A
black newspaper is a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly publication
that features news and content for and about African Americans.
The argument is that many mainstream newspapers do not
cover issues relevant to Blacks, so the community created
their own press.
How
Many Black Newspapers Are There, and Where Can I Get A
Copy?
There are currently about 200 different black newspapers
in about 150 different cities across the United States.
Many cities, such as Los Angeles and New York, have more
than one paper. Copies can be obtained by subscription or
through newspaper vending machines - just like any other
newspaper.
What
Are Some Black Newspaper Organizations?
Black newspaper organizations include Black College wire - a news service established promote the journalistic
work of students at predominantly black colleges and universities; Black Press USA - a joint
web presence of America’s Black community newspapers
and the NNPA News Service; Ethnic Print Media Group - a
full-service print placement firm representing the most
influential Black (and other minority) newspapers; and the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA) - a
60 year-old trade association of more than 200 Black community
newspapers from across the nation.
