Nationwide — Black entrepreneurs are growing daily and making a significant imprint in world economics. Their businesses can be found, not just all over the United States, but all over the world. Here are at least 5 top Black-owned businesses that are located in Asia.
#2 – Barong Tagalog (Manila, Philippines): Founded in 2015 by Dante Lee and the family of his Filipina wife, this Black-owned business is a major manufacturer and wholesale supplier of formal Filipino garments. The garments, mostly long-sleeve shirts are textiles wovenfrom unique materials including pineapple fiber. Called Barong Tagalogs (or just Barongs), they are typically worn by men during weddings, important government events, and other formal occasions.
#3 – D’ART Shtajio (Tokyo, Japan): This Black-owned 2D animation studio created by two brothers, Arthell and Darnell Isom, designs authentic Japanese quality animations. Using the traditional anime art style, they are bridging the gap between Eastern and Western ideologies to create a truly unique and vibrant animation.
#4 – Honey Hair (Pyeongtaek, Korea): Jessica Fry, an African American from Michigan, is the owner of this company which is one of the largest beauty supply stores in the country. Her store sells various haircare and skincare products to other people of African descent that have also chosen to make Korea their home.
#5 – Brush & Saccy Bespoke (Shanghai, China): a clothing brand founded by Benjamin Kontoh, who is originally from Ghana. He is the very first black fashion designer, men’s stylist and bespoke tailor based in Shanghai.
