2-year old boy abandoned at Goodwill store

Southaven, MS — A 2-year old boy was reportedly abandoned at a Goodwill drop-off in Mississippi along with a plastic bag containing a note and change of clothes. The boy has been identified and a suspect was arrested, police said.

Officers responded to the store on Monday morning, where they found the boy who was unable to give his name or the name of his parents or relatives. The note found with the boy has “child abandoned… no phone number for mom” handwritten on the paper towel.

Surveillance video showed a man and a woman in a beat-up vehicle dropping off the little boy. The Goodwill employee who took the child told police a man approached him and said, “the child’s mother couldn’t care for him” before walking away.

On Monday afternoon, a suspect was arrested. Police thanked the public for help identifying the boy.

“Southaven Police received numerous tips, and with the assistance of FBI offices in both Mississippi, and Tennessee, along with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department a suspect related to this case was taken into custody in Memphis,” the department said.
