24-Year Old First-Generation College Student Graduates From Harvard Law School

Nationwide — Derrick Parker, a 24-year old African American student from Kansas City, Missouri, has graduated from Harvard Law School, one of the most prestigious law schools in the country. He proudly made the announcement via his Facebook page.

During his time at Harvard, he served on the executive board of the Black Law Students Association and was also a member of the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau where he represented indigent clients in civil matters in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts courts.

As a first-generation college student, Derrick also made history in 2018 when he earned his Bachelor’s degree at Morehouse College where he graduated as valedictorian.

During his career as a student, he has interned at Dla Piper Global Law Firm, the Fulton County District Attorney’s office, the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus Foundation, the United States House Of Representatives, and Bank America.

He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society, and Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society.
