Nationwide — Aaliyah Ross, a 27-year-old woman from Tampa, Florida, has been arrested for allegedly intentionally driving over her boyfriend, who was holding a 16-month-old baby, during a heated confrontation.
As the situation escalated, the man grabbed a 16-month-old boy and tried to run away. But Ross reportedly accelerated towards them, hitting them with her car before crashing into a trailer. She left the scene, leaving the victims injured.
The man sustained injuries to his body and lungs and was treated at a hospital before being released. The 16-month-old boy remains hospitalized with severe injuries, including a broken shoulder and collarbone, multiple broken ribs, and other injuries.
Ross was later apprehended in Orlando after a warrant was issued for her arrest. During questioning, she admitted that she had threatened to run over her boyfriend in the past but swerved away at the last moment. This time, she claimed she expected him to move out of harm’s way, which he did not.
“Aaliyah Ross made a series of incredibly unthinkable choices Monday: running over a man and a baby with a car, leaving the baby alone, and failing to get medical treatment for the obviously injured baby,” Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement.
Authorities located the other two children, and the Florida Department of Children and Families is assessing their custody arrangement.
Meanwhile, Ross is currently in custody at Orange County Jail and will be transferred to Polk County Jail. She faces charges including aggravated child abuse, domestic aggravated battery, negligent child abuse, domestic battery, and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.
