Nationwide — Bishop T.D. Jakes addressed his congregation at The Potter’s House of Dallas virtually on Sunday, just a week after a serious health scare. The 67-year-old pastor had been rushed to the ICU for emergency surgery after collapsing on stage while delivering a sermon.
During last week’s incident, a livestream posted on X showed Jakes visibly shaking before being surrounded by church staff. He shared that he was initially unaware of what was happening, saying, “I was annoyed because I didn’t know why everybody was around me,” according to Fox 4 News.
Jakes did not reveal the exact cause of his medical emergency but clarified that he had not suffered a stroke. He is now at home recovering and he assured the congregation that he is following his doctor’s orders and taking it easy for the next few weeks.
“I just had a complete physical, and I was fine,” Jakes said. “I’m in good spirits, I feel good, no pain. I’m in peace and tranquility and I want you to know that I can feel your prayers.”
While he didn’t give a timeline for his return to in-person preaching, Jakes encouraged his congregation to continue celebrating, even if he couldn’t physically join in. His daughter led a prayer for his recovery after his message.
