Mary J. Blige’s Ex-Husband Kendu Isaacs Said Their Divorce Led to His Hospitalization

Mary J. Blige and her husband Kendu Isaacs

Nationwide — Back in 2018, Kendu Isaacs, ex-husband of R&B singer Mary J. Blige, said that the stress from their ongoing divorce affected his health and led to his hospitalization and financial struggles. Over the past 7 years, however, Blige has disputed his accusations, and the legal battle is still unresolved.

According to People, Isaacs has been fighting for spousal support since Blige filed for divorce in 2016, citing irreconcilable differences. He claims he’s “unemployable” and relies on Blige’s financial help to cover rent and other expenses. In June, Blige was ordered to pay him $30,000 per month in temporary support.

Their divorce has been marked by legal disputes, with Blige requesting the termination of spousal support. She accused Isaacs of misusing over $420,000 on an alleged affair and claims he refuses to return her Grammy and achievement awards.

Blige, who said she was the main provider in their family, revealed that she is now left to shoulder the family’s financial burden, including more than $10 million in debts. While the couple has no children together, Blige helped raise Isaacs’ three children from a previous relationship.

In a September interview with Variety, Blige opened up about the emotional toll of the breakup, calling Isaacs a “con artist” who betrayed her.

“I got played. I got suckered. I have to keep smiling and keep my spirits up because this is designed to kill me,” she said.

The legal dispute is set to continue in court in March.
