Nationwide — Oklahoma State Senator Regina Goodwin had a heated confrontation with a Tulsa County sheriff’s deputy during a traffic stop on January 11th. She was handcuffed after repeatedly refusing to provide her driver’s license when pulled over for allegedly running two stop signs.
“There was no refusal of me to give you my driver’s license,” Goodwin said.
“I asked you over five times to give me your driver’s license, and you kept debating your driver’s license,” the officer responded.
The situation escalated, leading to Goodwin being handcuffed, detained, and placed in the patrol vehicle. Her attorney, Mike Manning, who was with her, tried to intervene and suggested that the officer could issue a citation instead. Alaniz agreed but insisted that Goodwin’s behavior warranted the strong response.
During a call with his supervisor, Alaniz explained that Goodwin had been speeding, ran two stop signs, and became confrontational during the stop.
Goodwin was released at the scene with a citation for failing to stop at a stop sign. She’s set to appear in court on February 25 unless she pays the fine before then.
