Two Airport Employees Arrested for Leaking Deadly D.C. Plane Crash Footage

Nationwide — Two employees of the agency overseeing Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport were arrested for allegedly leaking surveillance footage of the deadly aircraft collision last week. The footage, obtained by CNN, captured the tragic crash over the Potomac River.

The suspects, Mohamed Lamine Mbengue, 21, and Jonathan Savoy, 45, who are employees of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), are charged with computer trespass for making unauthorized copies of security footage, according to the New York Post.

The crash, which happened Wednesday night, involved a Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines jet, killing all 67 people aboard both aircraft.

CNN’s footage, reportedly recorded on cellphones, showed the Black Hawk helicopter darting across the screen before colliding with the approaching American Airlines flight. Another clip showed the moment the two aircraft collided.

Mbengue, from Rockville, Maryland, was arrested on Friday and later released. Savoy, from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, was charged Sunday and received a summons.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA), which oversees both Reagan National and Dulles International airports, has not disclosed further details about the case.
