Nationwide — Sean “Diddy” Combs has filed a defamation lawsuit against NBCUniversal over the media company’s documentary Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy. The lawsuit, submitted in a New York state court on Wednesday, claims that the documentary falsely accuses him of serious crimes, including sexually assaulting minors and being involved in the death of his former partner, Kimberly Porter.
“In the documentary, Defendants accuse Mr. Combs of horrible crimes, including serial murder and sexual assault of minors—knowing that there is not a shred of evidence to support them,” the lawsuit states. Combs and his legal team argue that the media giant prioritized profit over ethical journalism, unfairly damaging his reputation.
According to TMZ, NBCUniversal has not yet responded to requests for comment. However, Combs’ attorney, Erica Wolff, issued a strong statement condemning the documentary’s producers. “As described in today’s lawsuit, NBCUniversal Media, LLC, Peacock TV, LLC, and Ample LLC made a conscious decision to line their own pockets at the expense of truth, decency, and basic standards of professional journalism,” Wolff said. “They grossly exploited the trust of their audience and raced to outdo their competition for the most salacious Diddy exposé.”
Meanwhile, Combs is facing separate legal troubles, as he awaits trial on federal charges, including sex trafficking. The hip-hop mogul has consistently denied all allegations of sexual misconduct and maintains his innocence.
Sean “Diddy” Combs, born in 1969, is a rapper, producer, entrepreneur, and one of the most influential figures in hip-hop history. He first gained prominence in the early 1990s as an executive at Uptown Records before launching his own label, Bad Boy Entertainment. Through Bad Boy, he helped shape the careers of artists like The Notorious B.I.G., Mase, and Faith Evans. Beyond music, Combs has built a multimillion-dollar empire with ventures in fashion, liquor, television, and media, making him one of the wealthiest figures in the entertainment industry.
However, Combs’ career has also been marked by controversy. In addition to recent legal troubles, he has faced lawsuits and allegations over the years, including accusations of assault and contractual disputes with former artists. His involvement in a 1999 nightclub shooting, which led to a trial where he was acquitted, remains one of the most widely publicized incidents of his career.
