Nationwide — Twin brothers Qaadir Malik Lewis and Naazir Rahim Lewis were found dead with gunshot wounds on Bell Mountain in Hiawassee, Georgia on March 8th, with authorities suggesting a possible murder-suicide. However, their family rejects this theory, demanding further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the 19-year-olds’ deaths.
Qaadir and Naazir had booked flights to Boston for the morning of March 7th, but their bodies were found nearly 90 miles away from their Lawrenceville home in a location their family says they had never heard of before.
“How did they end up out in the mountains? They don’t hike out there; they’ve never been out there,” the twins’ aunt, Samira Brawner, told 11Alive. “They don’t know anything about Hiawassee, Georgia. They never even heard of Bell Mountain, so how did they end up right there?”
The family believes something went wrong, especially since the twins’ plane tickets were found in their wallets. Their uncle, Rahim Brawner, stressed the strong bond between the brothers.
“They’re very protective of each other. They love each other,” their uncle Rahim Brawner said. “They’re like inseparable. I couldn’t imagine them hurting each other because I’ve never seen them get into a fistfight before.”
Another aunt, Yasmine Brawner, started a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses, which has so far raised over $27,000. She described the twins as ambitious young men who dreamed of starting their own clothing line.
The GBI has completed autopsies, but further forensic testing is underway. The family is desperate for answers, hoping for more clarity on the tragic deaths of Qaadir and Naazir.
