Black Mom Defies Odds, Gives Birth to Rare Third Set of Twins

Solita Drone and her kids

Nationwide — Solita Drone, an African American mother from Wentzville, Missouri, gave birth to her third set of twins, a rare occurrence that doctors say happens in only one out of three million pregnancies. The birth brings her total number of children to eight.

Drone delivered a boy-and-girl twins on July 29. The twins were born six weeks early and spent nearly three weeks in the NICU before going home. With this birth, her family now has four boys and four girls.

Her journey to motherhood has stretched across nearly two decades. She welcomed her first child in 2007, followed her first set of twins in 2013 and her second set in 2015. She then had another child in 2016 and most recently, another twin in 2025.

Multiple births are common in Drone’s family. Her brother has three sets of twins, and her father’s siblings also had twins. She expected twins again after her second set, but the third came as a surprise. Drone said her first ultrasound showed nothing, but weeks later, two babies appeared on the screen.

“It’s busy, super busy, but I love it. My kids keep me young. They’re a blessing,” she told Fox 2 Now.

Raising eight children requires strict organization. Drone keeps routines for meals, bedtimes, and schoolwork. Her older twins often help out by caring for their younger siblings. Still, pregnancies have grown more difficult over time. Her most recent was complicated by placenta previa and growth restrictions.

Despite the challenges, Drone says the rewards outweigh the struggles. “The most rewarding part is just the blessing of it,” she said. “A lot of people deal with infertility. Just being able to give birth to the children that the Most High blessed me with, that’s the biggest reward.”

Out in public, her family often draws attention. Strangers are amazed by her story, with some joking she should try her luck at the lottery. Drone brushes off the comments but admits her focus is on parenting.

“The biggest challenge is making sure I don’t repeat generational curses,” she said. “I want to give them everything I never had and teach them everything I never knew.”

Drone confirmed this will be her last pregnancy. “These are my last little babies I’ll get to hold and rock,” she said. “I’m just eager to watch them grow and see what they become.”
