Nationwide — Tange Davis, a 45-year-old African American woman from Mableton, Georgia, was found buried in Atlanta after her boyfriend confessed to killing her, ending days of desperate searching by her family and friends.
According to Atlanta News First, Davis was reported missing when her son couldn’t reach her for several days, something he said had never happened before. Using the OnStar app, he located her Chevrolet Equinox parked outside a Lidl grocery store in Mableton and called police right away.
When officers arrived, 56-year-old Cecil McCrary, Davis’s boyfriend, also showed up. He claimed she had last been at his home and even provided security footage showing her leaving Thursday night. However, as the investigation continued, police grew increasingly concerned about her safety.
By Tuesday, police had issued a missing person alert and brought McCrary in for questioning. During the interview, he confessed to killing Davis and burying her body in Atlanta. Detectives from Cobb County and Atlanta Police later discovered her remains at the location he had identified.
McCrary was arrested and charged with two counts of theft linked to Davis’s disappearance. Police said he stole her phone and car after a domestic dispute early Friday morning. He is now being held at the Cobb County Jail.
Investigators later revealed a history of domestic violence between the couple. Police had responded to multiple incidents in the past, and McCrary was out on pretrial release for kidnapping and aggravated assault charges related to those earlier cases when the killing occurred.
Cobb County police expressed their condolences to Davis’s family and friends, describing her death as a “deeply tragic and senseless loss.” The department also reminded anyone experiencing abuse or fearing for their safety to seek help immediately.
