Nationwide — Daniel Harmon, an African American man from Aiken County, Georgia, ran over his ex-girlfriend while she was on a 911 call and later shot her in the head multiple times. The attack came hours after she first contacted authorities to report domestic abuse.
Jamilla Shanae’ Smith, 30, first called 911 on December 2, 2023, saying her ex-boyfriend, 36-year-old Daniel Harmon, had committed domestic violence against her, according to Local 12 News. Authorities did not disclose details of the abuse or whether officers responded immediately.
Later that evening, around 8:30 p.m., Smith called 911 again. She reported that Harmon had broken into her home and was chasing her down the street. During the call, the dispatcher heard a car engine and Smith screaming as Harmon confronted her.
Harmon allegedly told Smith to get into his car, claiming he would take her to the hospital. She refused, screaming that he was hurting her. The call ended suddenly amid sounds of struggle, with Smith accusing Harmon of assault while he claimed she had jumped in front of his vehicle.
Authorities tracked Harmon three days later, linking him to a car that contained Smith’s blood in the trunk, though her body was missing. Smith’s remains were found five months later, in May 2024, in a wooded area. An autopsy confirmed she died from multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
On December 19, Harmon pled guilty to murder and kidnapping. He was sentenced to 45 years for the murder and an additional 30 years for the kidnapping.
