Nationwide — Meagan Good and Jonathan Majors have officially received Guinean citizenship after tracing their ancestry to the West African nation through DNA testing. The Hollywood couple was honored in a private ceremony in Conakry, Guinea, and plans to explore the country’s landmarks.
According to the Associated Press, the ceremony welcomed them as part of Guinea’s diaspora. Djiba Diakité, head of the president’s cabinet, told them, “We think that you are among the worthy sons and daughters of this Guinea. You represent our country, the red-yellow-green flag all over the world.”
Majors, known for his roles in Da 5 Bloods and Lovecraft Country, had been slated to continue as Kang the Conqueror in Marvel films. His career faced setbacks after a 2023 assault conviction, which led Marvel to remove him from future projects. The film Magazine Dreams, once seen as an Oscar contender, was also delayed.
Good, an actor herself, began dating Majors in 2023 and stayed by his side during the trial. They got engaged in 2024 and married last year in a small, private ceremony.
Guinea is part of a growing trend of African nations offering citizenship to descendants of the diaspora. Last year, singer Ciara became a citizen of Benin, and Ghana naturalized hundreds of African Americans as part of its “come home” initiative.
Currently, Guinea is led by junta leader Gen. Mamadi Doumbouya, who recently won the presidency after elections with no major opposition. The country’s move to grant citizenship reflects a deeper effort to connect with its global diaspora.
