Nationwide — Marissa Carmichael, an African American woman from Greensboro, North Carolina, disappeared after calling 911 to report a robbery at a local gas station. Two years later, the mother of five is still missing as her family continues searching for answers.
Marissa was 25 years old when she vanished on January 14, 2024. She placed a distressed 911 call from an Exxon gas station, telling the dispatcher she had been robbed and did not know where she was. That call was the last confirmed contact anyone had with her, according to People.
Earlier that morning, Marissa had left a nearby nightclub before stopping at the gas station. During the call, she said the person she was riding with told her to go inside the store to “grab some s—t.”
While she was inside, the person drove off, leaving her behind. “I just got all my stuff thrown out the car,” she said during the call. “He took off with my phone. I have no clue where I’m at.”
Police arrived at the gas station about 40 minutes later. By then, Marissa was gone. A store clerk told officers she had accepted a ride from another customer and left the area. Surveillance video later showed Marissa getting into a vehicle and driving away from the station.
Investigators later identified and interviewed the driver of that vehicle, who police described as a witness. Detectives reviewed surveillance footage, conducted dozens of interviews, and followed multiple leads. However, they have not publicly named any suspects or confirmed whether foul play was involved.
Two years after her disappearance, Marissa’s whereabouts remain unknown. Police say the case is still active and note that her disappearance is out of character, especially since she has had no contact with her children or family.
Her family believes she did not leave on her own. “I just want everyone to understand that she did not willingly go missing,” her sister, Emma Villegas, said. “She would never willingly go missing.”
Marissa’s mother, Sara Carmichael, said the uncertainty has been especially hard on Marissa’s children. “Seeing everybody that is praying for her and sharing her pictures gives me some hope that she’s not forgotten,” she said. “I still have hope.”
Anyone with information about Marissa Carmichael’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact authorities.
