Nationwide — Michelle Obama says she would oppose her husband, former President Barack Obama, running for a third term, even if it were legal. She added she would “actively work against” him in that scenario and supports the two-term limit for presidents.
On the Call Her Daddy podcast, Obama laughed when asked if Barack might run again if the Constitution allowed it. “I hope not,” she said, making it clear, “I would be at home working against it.” She also noted that many people might share her view, according to The Hill.
The 22nd Amendment limits presidents to two terms, but some, including President Donald Trump, have hinted at trying for a third. Michelle Obama defended the rule, saying the presidency needs new energy and fresh ideas. “We’re changing and growing so fast. This is a hard job,” she said, adding that leadership requires constant new perspectives.
She also highlighted the importance of nurturing young leaders. “How are we going to build young leaders if the same people keep doing it again, and again and again?” she asked. She acknowledged that older leaders bring wisdom, but new generations offer different experiences and insights.
“I do believe that eight years is enough,” she said. She expressed curiosity about the next generation’s solutions and emphasized that leadership should adapt as the world changes.
