Nationwide — Kevaughn Goldson, an HBCU track and field athlete, died after allegedly being stabbed by his girlfriend, Denita Jackson, who is also a sprinter. She now faces murder charges, but claims she only acted in self-defense.
Kevaughn Goldson, a 20-year-old Lincoln University sprinter, was found early Monday with stab wounds to his chest and back near the Missouri campus. He was airlifted to University Hospital but died from his injuries, according to TMZ.
Jackson, who also runs track for Lincoln, said she returned home Sunday night feeling unwell. She told police she found Goldson in her roommate’s locked room and allegedly saw him and the roommate together.
Jackson said a fight broke out. She claimed Goldson kicked her and tried to choke her. She told authorities she grabbed a knife from under the roommate’s bed and stabbed him before calling 911.
Police arrested Jackson at the scene. Prosecutors charged her with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. She is being held at Cole County Jail while the investigation continues.
Lincoln University expressed condolences in a statement, saying their thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the tragedy.
