Missing Black Teen from Georgia Found Safe After Week-Long Search

Zyla Velazquez

Nationwide — Zyla Velazquez, a 16-year-old from Norcross, Georgia, has been found safe after going missing for a week. Authorities and her family thanked the community for helping in the search and ensuring her safe return.

Velazquez was last seen at her Norcross home on February 18. Her sudden disappearance worried her family because they said it was completely out of character.

Her mother, Nakeya Moore, urged people to stay hopeful while searching. “Zyla, I love you so much,” Moore told Atlanta News First. “Keep praying, don’t give up, and stay strong. You have a whole army looking for you to bring you home safe.”

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children shared details about Velazquez’s appearance while she was missing. Officials initially believed she might still be in the local area.

Gwinnett County Police Department confirmed through social media that Velazquez has been safely located. They also expressed gratitude to the public for providing tips and support during the week-long search.
