Nationwide — Mama Tina’s Gumbo was temporarily shut down at the Houston Rodeo, but it quickly reopened after passing a health inspection. Fans quickly returned, eager to try the Creole recipe made famous by Tina Knowles, mother of Beyoncé and Solange.

The gumbo booth first opened near the Ferris wheel on March 2, and immediately became a rodeo favorite. Tina Knowles, 72, has spent decades perfecting the family gumbo recipe, which became a highlight for rodeo-goers this season.

On March 16, the Houston Health Department temporarily shut down the booth following a complaint investigation, according to People. Officials said Mama Tina’s staff fully cooperated and addressed the concerns, allowing the booth to reopen the next day.

After the short pause, the lines returned immediately. Visitors, some familiar faces among them, enjoyed the rich, flavorful gumbo, proving its lasting popularity at the event.

Rodeo organizers reminded all vendors to comply with health and safety rules. With the inspection passed, Mama Tina’s Gumbo continued serving through March 22, keeping the family recipe at the center of the rodeo experience.
