Nationwide — NFL star Shedeur Sanders has graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder while continuing his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns. He earned a sociology degree with a 3.9 GPA and finished all of his coursework after being drafted.
The graduation ceremony took place at Folsom Field and quickly drew attention online as fans and athletes reacted to the milestone. Sanders finished his degree after being drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the 2025 NFL Draft as the 144th overall pick in the fifth round, according to EURWeb.
After entering the NFL, Sanders continued his studies through online coursework while adjusting to professional football. He managed training camp, preseason work, and regular-season games alongside his academic requirements.
On the field, he started seven games during his rookie season and threw for about 1,400 yards. His role grew steadily as he adapted to the pace and demands of the NFL.
Support from his family was visible throughout the moment. His father, Deion Sanders, publicly celebrated the graduation after the news spread. Before the ceremony, Shedeur also followed a personal tradition by laying out his cap and gown in a style that echoed his father’s pregame ritual.
He also shared a short video from campus, walking with classmates and speaking on camera. In the clip, he said, “What’s up? We at graduation… It’s called excellence, man!” Other graduates joined in by copying his “perfect timing” hand gesture.
Reactions on social media highlighted his ability to balance academics and professional football. Many praised his discipline and focus in completing his degree while playing at the highest level. Some online discussions focused on his sociology major, but most feedback remained positive.
Heading into the 2026 NFL season, Sanders continues to compete for the starting quarterback job in Cleveland against Deshaun Watson. The Browns also added offensive coordinator Todd Monken, a change Sanders has responded well to. He also switched back to his college jersey number 2 ahead of training camp.
Sanders’ graduation marks another early milestone in his NFL journey, showing a path that combined education with professional sports as he moves into his second season with the Browns.
