White Woman from New York Accused of Stealing Nearly $37K in Food Stamps

Elise M. Roberts

Nationwide — Elise M. Roberts, a 34-year-old woman from New York, has been accused of stealing nearly $37,000 in SNAP benefits she was not entitled to. She was arrested and charged in a welfare fraud investigation tied to false benefit information.

Investigators allege Roberts did not fully report everyone living in her household or the income earned inside it. Officials say those missing details affected how her eligibility for SNAP benefits was assessed.

According to WLBT, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said the issues came to light during a review of her SNAP records. Investigators identified inconsistencies between her reported information and what they found during the check.

Because of the incomplete disclosures, authorities say Roberts received $36,667 in SNAP benefits she was not qualified to collect. They linked the overpayment directly to the inaccurate application details on file.

Roberts now faces welfare fraud charges as the case proceeds through the New York legal system. Officials have not shared additional updates on upcoming court proceedings.
