Nationwide — Former Texas A&M running back Le’Veon Moss was arrested after his 2-year-old son accidentally shot himself with a loaded firearm at their Baton Rouge apartment. Police charged him with child cruelty, saying the gun was left unsecured within the child’s reach.
Officers responded to Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital on Monday afternoon after the toddler was brought in with a gunshot wound. Moss and his girlfriend told investigators the shooting happened at their apartment on S. Flannery Road.
According to KBTX, Moss said he placed the loaded gun under a pillow in his bedroom. He and his girlfriend were upstairs when the child found the weapon and accidentally fired it.
The couple immediately drove their son to the hospital in a private vehicle. Officials have not shared an update on the child’s condition.
The affidavit said that “due to Moss’ negligence, a child under the age of seventeen suffered unjustifiable pain.” Authorities later arrested the 23-year-old and booked him into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one felony count of cruelty to juveniles. His bond was set at $25,000.
Moss, a Baton Rouge native, became a standout player at Texas A&M after attending Istrouma High School. During his four seasons with the Aggies, he played in 32 games and recorded 1,767 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns.
He earned Second-Team All-SEC honors in 2024 but faced setbacks from injuries, including a torn ACL and MCL. After going undrafted in the 2026 NFL Draft, Moss signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent before retiring four days later.
