Innocent Black Mom Killed as Gunmen Fire 95 Rounds at Her Home

Shaquander Mixon

Nationwide — Shaquander Mixon, a 43-year-old African American mother from Lee County, South Carolina, was fatally shot after multiple people opened fire on a home late Saturday night. Investigators found about 95 shell casings around the residence as they worked to determine who was responsible. The sheriff’s deputies responded to the home on Nash Road after receiving a shooting call shortly before midnight, and found Mixon inside the house with a gunshot wound and took her to a hospital, where she later died.

Investigators said she does not appear to have been the intended target. Chief Deputy Iseman said another person who was inside the home may have been targeted in the shooting. Authorities also believe multiple shooters fired at the residence. They have not determined exactly how many people were involved, but the large number of shell casings recovered from the scene has become part of the investigation.

Mixon’s family is remembering her as a loving mother of two who worked hard and cared deeply for her children. Her brother said she was known for her kindness and infectious smile. “She has two kids … I would like her to be remembered as a very loving person, infectious smile, hardworking, loved her kids, always smiling and kind,” he told WLTX.

Mixon’s mother urged whoever was responsible to turn themselves in. “Whoever done this to her, me being a woman of God, I pray they do the right thing and turn themself in,” she said.

The family is seeking justice as investigators continue looking for answers. No arrests have been announced, and authorities have not identified any suspects or released a possible motive. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office said it does not believe the shooting poses a threat to the wider public. Anyone with information is asked to contact local authorities.
