Three Black women with roots in fashion, music, and West Coast hip hop bring affordable style and star power to Taste of Soul October 17.
Nationwide — From the legendary days of Tupac Shakur and Dr. Dre to today’s fashion scene, West Coast culture has always been about making a statement. Now, three Southern California women are bringing their own blend of style, entertainment, and entrepreneurship to the 21st Annual Taste of Soul Family Festival. Bonita Sutton, Celecia Tymeka Johnson and LaShell Sanders, the women behind The Famly Bizness, will make a special appearance at Booth R44 on Saturday, October 17, where festivalgoers can meet them, hear their stories and shop their collection of fashionable clothing, hats, handbags, accessories and more.
The Carson-based family business reflects three distinctive creative backgrounds. LaShell Sanders was a close friend of the late Tupac Shakur and can be heard singing in the background of one of Dr. Dre’s first songs. Known among friends for her impeccable sense of style, Sanders brings firsthand memories of West Coast hip hop culture and its influence on fashion to the brand. Sutton, founder of Hats by Bonita in 2008, brings decades of fashion experience and traditional millinery craftsmanship. Johnson, a classically trained lyric soprano who toured Europe with hip hop in 2013, contributes her background in music, entertainment, and creative merchandise production.
Their shared mission is simple: Bring fashionable, quality clothing and accessories to everyday shoppers at prices they can afford. From statement hats and handbags to casual wear and special occasion pieces, The Famly Bizness believes everyone deserves to look like a million dollars without spending it.
