Reality Star Anika Rashaun Dies at 34, Just Months After Learning She Had Breast Cancer

Anika Rashaun

Nationwide — Former reality star Anika Rashaun, known for appearing on The Real World and The Challenge, has died at 34 after battling stage 4 breast cancer. She died on October 1, months after receiving a diagnosis that surprised her and speaking publicly about the importance of breast cancer awareness and early detection.

Her friend Cyndi Rich announced her death in a Facebook post. Another longtime friend, Tiara Ramos, paid tribute to her in an October 5 Substack post titled “Breast Friends Forever: RIP to my Sister.” Ramos described the diagnosis as “a shock,” explaining that Rashaun had never been identified as high-risk despite her mother’s history of breast cancer, according to People. She also raised concerns about the medical care her friend received, saying doctors had not advised her to prioritize mammograms.

She appeared on The Real World: Bad Blood in 2016 before joining The Challenge: Invasion of the Champions in 2017. Beyond reality television, she worked as a dating coach and was training to become a licensed marriage and family therapist, according to her Instagram profile. Ramos, who had known her for more than 20 years, remembered her as someone who stood firmly by her beliefs and remained fiercely loyal to the people she loved.

Before her death, Rashaun discussed her diagnosis during a podcast interview with Ramos. She admitted that she never expected to develop breast cancer because she had no personal history of the disease. Both women shared that their mothers had also battled breast cancer, prompting them to stress that younger women should not assume they are immune to the illness.

“The amount of young women that have been getting breast cancer is just alarming,” Rashaun said. She encouraged women to perform self-examinations, pay attention to changes in their bodies and seek medical advice when necessary. During the conversation, she also revealed that she was undergoing chemotherapy and expressed frustration over the lack of a cure, asking, “where’s the cure?” Her message focused on raising awareness and encouraging women to take their health seriously rather than dismissing the possibility of breast cancer because of their age or perceived risk.

Amid her cancer battle, Rashaun also celebrated a major milestone in her personal life. She married her partner, Kyle Rehn, on Valentine’s Day in 2025, according to her Instagram account. In a November 2025 post, she reflected on the difficult year they had faced and expressed excitement about their future together. Despite the challenges and changes they had experienced, she said their love had remained constant.
