Man Arrested for Calling 911 and Faking an Emergency to Avoid Paying $63 for Red Lobster Meal

Abdul Hakeem Rasheed

Nationwide — Abdul Hakeem Rasheed, a man from Georgia, was arrested after police accused him of faking a medical emergency at a Red Lobster restaurant and using a 911 call to avoid paying his $63.77 dinner bill. The incident allegedly happened after he finished eating at the restaurant in Douglas, Georgia, on Sept. 24. He now faces charges related to the unpaid meal and the alleged false emergency report.

According to People, he allegedly tried to avoid paying for his meal by reporting a medical emergency. Police said he called 911 as part of the alleged scheme, even though the report did not show that he was actually suffering from a medical problem. Authorities said the call was made through deception and was intended to help him avoid paying the restaurant bill.

The amount involved was $63.77. While the unpaid tab itself led to a theft of services charge, investigators also focused on the 911 call. An affidavit described his alleged actions during the call as “unlawful conduct” carried out with the intent to avoid payment. The case therefore involves both the restaurant bill and the alleged misuse of an emergency service.

Police arrested Rasheed on Sept. 25, one day after the alleged incident. Online jail records show that he was charged with theft of services and unlawful conduct during a 911 call. The first charge is tied to the unpaid meal, while the second concerns the alleged false emergency report.

Rasheed’s bond was set at $3,000, and jail records showed that he remained in custody after his arrest. The case highlights how an alleged attempt to avoid a relatively small restaurant bill can lead to additional criminal charges when emergency services are involved. Authorities have not said that the incident caused any injuries or other medical emergency.

The allegations against Rasheed have not been proven in court, and an arrest does not establish guilt. The charges will have to be addressed through the legal process as the case moves forward.
