Fast Food Worker Accused of Stealing Customer’s Card to Pay Probation Fees

Aleefah Sumpter, fast food worker who stole customer's card info

Nationwide — Aleefah Sumpter, a 25-year-old woman from Newnan, Georgia, is wanted for identity theft and fraud after allegedly stealing a customer’s card information while working at Whataburger. Police say she used the stolen funds to pay her probation fees.

Sumpter allegedly took a customer’s card details on January 31st while working at the drive-thru of a Whataburger in Newnan. That same day, she reportedly used the stolen card to pay her probation fees and fines at the Coweta County State Court Probation Office, where she was on probation for a previous misdemeanor marijuana charge, according to 11 Alive.

The victim noticed an unauthorized $400 charge and reported it to the authorities. After identifying Sumpter in a photo lineup, police and probation officers launched an investigation, resulting in warrants for her arrest.

Sumpter initially agreed to surrender on February 21st but never showed up. Investigators say she stopped responding to calls, and her family believes she may have fled to Florida, a trip she reportedly planned before the charges were filed.

The Senoia Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating Sumpter.
