Nationwide — Alicia Cade, an African American mother from Springville, Alabama, is facing attempted murder charges after authorities accused her of locking herself and her three children inside a running car in a garage in St. Clair County. She also allegedly assaulted an officer.
St. Clair County arrest records say Cade locked herself and her three minor children inside a vehicle while the engine kept running inside a garage, according to WLBT.
Authorities said the situation escalated when officers responded to the scene. Police said Cade struck a responding officer in the face during the arrest, which led to an additional assault charge.
Court records show Cade previously faced an arson charge, but officials later dropped it during an Aniah’s Law hearing on April 28.
Cade remains in custody at St. Clair County Jail. Records show officers booked her on May 22 while the investigation continues.
