Black Entrepreneur Curates Golf Museum Celebrating a Civil Rights Icon Who Desegregated Golf Spaces

Arelicious Cooper, Jr. and Alfred Tup Holmes

Nationwide — Arelious Cooper Jr., an Atlanta native and co-founder of Art In the Paint, proudly unveils his creative direction of the Alfred “Tup” Holmes Golf Museum, the perfect tribute to an influential figure in Atlanta’s civil rights movement.

Alfred “Tup” Holmes is the reason why we have the likes of Tiger Woods and Alexis Belton today as he helped break the color barrier in golf and dedicated his life to desegregating the sport. The new museum will be a landmark in Atlanta that reminds people of courage, resilience, and the fight for equity in public spaces, all values Art In the Paint stands for.

As the Creative Director and the Curator of the museum, Cooper didn’t just want to share the remarkable story of the Holmes family — he wanted every visitor to be fully immersed in it. With careful consideration, he curated pieces of history, culture, and art that authentically depict Tup Holmes’ journey and legacy. This legacy is deeply rooted in medicine, public space desegregation, and education. Without the Holmes family, Atlanta and the US might not have a thriving Black social space, educational institutions, and certainly not one as vibrant and impactful as it is today.

“This museum is more than a history lesson; it’s a tribute to a family that changed the game,” said Cooper. “The Holmes family’s courage broke barriers that have impacted generations, and this space will ensure their story continues to inspire and empower the community.”

As Creative Director, Cooper’s curation brings Holmes’ journey to life through an immersive exhibit that will educate you. From interactive installations to historic displays, visitors will experience the family’s legacy firsthand.

The Alfred Tup Holmes Golf Museum will also host future golf programs and educational initiatives aimed at the youth and underserved communities. By blending culture, sports, and social justice, Cooper stays true to his mission to create spaces that foster inspiration and is a safe place for all.

In addition to the Golf museum project, Cooper’s work with AITP continues to break ground by transforming public sports spaces through murals, art installations, Community Champion, Policy At Play, corporate community engagement partnerships, and educational programming that has now reached over ten thousand people worldwide. A progressive model that has inspired AITP to become the Habitat for Humanity of play spaces.

Art in the Paint has completed over 70 public art projects, over one million square feet of work, partnering with Atlanta United, Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Hawks, Morehouse School of Medicine, Morehouse College, SNIPES, Lil Baby, Anthony Edwards, Coco Gauff, Cash App, and United Talent Agency to amplify community impact.

The Alfred Tup Holmes Golf Museum invites visitors to witness the historic Holmes family’s legacy and the contributions that helped shape Atlanta, GA, and the United States.
