Nationwide — Retired NBA player Carmelo Anthony and actress La La Anthony have officially finalized their divorce, nearly nine years after they first separated. The former couple, who were married for more than a decade, reached a legal agreement on November 4, 2026, officially ending their marriage after years apart.
La La filed for divorce in 2021, citing irreconcilable differences. However, the couple had already gone their separate ways in 2017 before briefly reconciling in 2018. According to E! News, court documents show that both signed affidavits agreeing to the divorce terms. The court subsequently issued a certificate of dissolution, making their separation official.
Their son, Kiyan Carmelo Anthony, also played a role in the proceedings. Since he turned 18 before the divorce was finalized, child support was no longer an issue. However, a qualified medical child support order remains listed as pending in the court documents. Such an order typically determines whether a child receives health insurance coverage through a parent’s medical plan.
The former couple first met in 2003 after Carmelo asked their mutual friend, DJ Clue, to introduce him to the MTV personality. They eventually married and welcomed their son. Over time, however, their relationship faced challenges, including the pressure of living under public scrutiny. During a 2022 appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, La La reflected on how the attention affected their marriage, particularly during their time in New York. “When we lived here [in New York] under all of that, that’s when things became complicated,” she said, describing that period as the beginning of the end of their marriage.
Despite their separation, the two have maintained a shared focus on raising their son. In a 2023 interview with E! News, La La said they wanted Kiyan to know that his parents still love and respect each other. “At the end of the day, the center of everything is Kiyan,” she explained. She added that they want to set a good example for him and show that they can remain a family even without being married. Both have also been linked to other people since their split. Carmelo has been dating model Racquel Smith, while La La has been linked to actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and entrepreneur Bear Da Prince. Although their marriage has officially ended, they continue to share the responsibility of raising their son.
