
Nationwide — Deborah R. Fluker, an African American judge in the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit Superior Court in Georgia, has died after a battle with cancer. The Gwinnett legal community is mourning her loss and remembering her for fairness, integrity, and steady service on the bench.
The Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office confirmed Judge Fluker’s death. Officials said she passed away following complications from cancer after serving on the bench for years, according to 11Alive.
Colleagues said Judge Fluker was known for her strong legal knowledge and consistent focus on fairness. She set high standards in her courtroom and expected attorneys to meet those standards in every case she handled.
Even while undergoing cancer treatment, she continued working. She stayed active on the bench and remained committed to her duties throughout her illness.
The district attorney’s office said she was widely respected across the legal community. They added that she will be remembered for her dignity, public service, and lasting contribution to Gwinnett’s justice system.
She studied law at the Georgia State University College of Law and also graduated from the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce.
