Nationwide — Don Lemon said he is seriously considering a run for president in 2028 after years of being repeatedly asked about his political ambitions. The former CNN host said he believes he would make a “really good” president if he decides to enter the race.
Lemon shared his thoughts during an appearance on the Can’t Be Censored podcast with hosts Karman Wong and Travis Dhanraj. When asked whether he had political ambitions, he said he had not made a decision but admitted he was giving the idea serious thought because people continue urging him to run.
“And I don’t know. I might. I’m serious. I don’t know. I might, because people keep asking me to do it, or if I’m going to do it,” he said, according to the New York Post.
The 60-year-old said he would only launch a campaign if he could do so without having to rely heavily on fundraising. However, he acknowledged that he does not know whether that would be realistic.
Lemon also argued that political experience is not a requirement for becoming president. He pointed to President Donald Trump, noting that Trump won the 2016 election despite having no traditional political background before taking office.
He went on to criticize Trump’s leadership, saying the president could have done a better job by listening to others. Lemon added that he believes he would approach the role differently if elected.
Lemon was fired by CNN in April 2023 and later rebranded himself as an independent journalist. He now hosts “The Don Lemon Show” on YouTube and other digital platforms.
Earlier this year, Lemon was among 39 people charged after joining anti-ICE activists who entered a church service in Minnesota. He said he was there as an independent journalist covering the event.
