Nationwide — NBA legend Dwyane Wade revealed that he underwent surgery to remove a cancerous tumor, requiring doctors to remove nearly half of one of his kidneys. The former Miami Heat star said he learned about his condition following a routine checkup.
After some tests, doctors found a tumor on his right kidney. On December 18, 2023, Wade underwent surgery to remove the mass. Due to the tumor’s location, surgeons had to remove 40% of his kidney to ensure the cancer was fully eliminated.
“I was struggling, dawg,” Wade said about his recovery, but said he is now doing well.
Wade, who retired after the 2018-19 season, urged others to be proactive about their health and get regular checkups to catch potential issues early.
