Nationwide — Emily Nutley, a 43-year-old married woman from Cincinnati, Ohio, was sentenced to three years in prison for having sex with a 17-year-old student in her school office. The student said Nutley threatened to harm herself if he spoke out.
The Enquirer reports that Nutley was a counselor at St. Xavier High School, a well-known Catholic boys’ school in the area. During the fall 2023 semester, she admitted to multiple sexual encounters with the student. Court records also revealed that she sent him nude photos, gave him a monthly allowance, and shared test answers.
The student said Nutley pressured him to stay silent, warning she would kill herself if he ended their relationship. He described feeling trapped and embarrassed, with people even calling out Nutley’s name at sports events.
At sentencing, Nutley said, “I crossed a line that should never have been crossed.” She expressed remorse and said she lost her husband, home, and friends, and caused pain to her children. Her husband filed for divorce soon after she was fired in October 2023.
Nutley pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual battery, both third-degree felonies. The judge sentenced her to three years in prison, followed by five years of probation. She must also register as a Tier III sex offender for life.
The victim said the abuse changed his life and asked for a longer sentence. Prosecutors had requested at least five years, calling Nutley someone who “preyed on the most defenseless person she could find.”
