Nationwide — Ron George, former NFL linebacker for the Kansas City Chiefs, Atlanta Falcons, and Minnesota Vikings, is making a profound impact off the field as the Executive Vice President of Development and Chief Administrative Officer of CRi. Leveraging the same leadership, resilience, and drive that defined his football career, George is spearheading an initiative to uplift and recognize caregivers who play a critical role in supporting individuals with mental health needs, physical disabilities, and developmental disabilities.Under George’s leadership, alongside President & CEO Justin Zakia, CRi has launched the Caregiver Recognition Initiative, a groundbreaking effort that celebrates the unsung heroes of healthcare and direct support. This program, which will honor caregivers across Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia, features an annual awards gala where outstanding caregivers will be recognized for their dedication and service. Caregivers can be nominated by families, colleagues, care recipients, and employers, with awardees receiving both recognition and meaningful rewards for their contributions.
“This initiative is about giving caregivers the appreciation they deserve,” said George. “They are the backbone of our communities, ensuring that individuals with disabilities and mental health needs receive the quality care and dignity they deserve. Just like in football, success is built on teamwork, and caregivers are often the unsung MVPs.”
George’s transition from professional football to the nonprofit sector has been marked by his commitment to service and empowerment. Prior to joining CRi, he served as COO of the NFL Alumni Association, where he doubled sponsorship revenues and led financial literacy programs for over 8,000 players at the NFL Players Association. Now, he is bringing that same strategic vision and passion for impact to CRi, ensuring caregivers receive the recognition and resources they need.
With deep roots in the Black community, George’s leadership at CRi underscores the importance of supporting caregivers, many of whom are women of color, who often work tirelessly behind the scenes. His efforts are set to bring long-overdue visibility to those who dedicate their lives to caring for others.
