Nationwide — An unidentified Black woman from North Lauderdale, Florida, has been arrested after fatally shooting Bart Diguglielmo, a 62-year-old white man, during an argument over a parking space at a local Walmart. Police say the woman remained at the scene and told investigators she acted in self-defense.
The shooting happened around 12:28 p.m. on June 30 in the Walmart parking lot, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Investigators said Diguglielmo, a retired staff sergeant with the US Army, and the unidentified woman got into a verbal dispute over a parking space before the confrontation escalated.
Cellphone video recorded by people nearby captured part of the incident. The footage showed the woman pointing a handgun while arguing with Diguglielmo. At one point, he stepped toward her, and she fired a single shot into his stomach. He then collapsed to the ground as the woman waited for police officers to arrive.
Emergency responders took Diguglielmo to Broward Health Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. Authorities said the woman cooperated with detectives and claimed she shot him in self-defense. She was not arrested at the scene.
Once the investigation is complete, homicide detectives will submit the case to the State Attorney’s Office for review to determine whether criminal charges will be filed.
One witness said he was shocked by what he saw in the parking lot. “I was walking up and heard a lady screaming,” he told CBS News. “She was screaming, and she was saying a lot of things.”
Diguglielmo’s sister said she was devastated by his death. She said he previously served in the military and worked as an emergency room trauma nurse. She also described him as a Christian man who lived without harming others.
