Nationwide — Laura Caron, a former teacher at an elementary school in Middle Township, New Jersey, reportedly sexually abused her student from when he was 11 years old. She has now been indicted for the abuse, which lasted several years, and for having the boy’s child when he was just 13 years old.
Caron, 34, was a 5th-grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School. Authorities say she had an inappropriate sexual relationship with one of her students, starting when he was only 11 years old. The abuse lasted about four years.
The boy lived with Caron during much of that time, along with his siblings. The family had become close to her, and the children began staying at her home regularly. Eventually, they moved in permanently, living there from 2016 to 2020.
According to the New York Post, the victim told police he was the father of Caron’s child, who was born when he was just 13. A friend of Caron said she held a baby shower and claimed the child’s father was “out of the picture.”
Caron was arrested in January and recently indicted by a grand jury. She faces serious charges, including aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, and endangering the welfare of a child. If convicted, she could face decades in prison.
The Cape May County Prosecutor called the case “deeply disturbing,” noting Caron’s position of trust. He stressed the office’s commitment to protecting vulnerable children and pursuing justice in such cases.
