Nationwide — Lizzo says she is “relieved” after a federal judge dismissed the remaining claims in a lawsuit filed by former wardrobe stylist Asha Daniels. U.S. District Judge Fernando L. Aenlle-Rocha ruled Tuesday that the case against Lizzo’s production company, Big Grrrl Big Touring Inc., could not proceed. Daniels had accused the company of bullying, sexual harassment, racial harassment, and disability discrimination. She filed the lawsuit in September 2023, claiming she experienced an “unsafe, sexually charged workplace culture.” The case initially named both Lizzo and her production company. However, Aenlle-Rocha dismissed Lizzo as an individual defendant in 2024, leaving the company as the remaining defendant in the case.
In his latest ruling, the judge said Daniels did not identify conduct by company employees that showed “general hostility” toward women or different treatment between male and female employees. He said the alleged incidents, while “inappropriate and unprofessional,” did not meet the legal standard for a workplace discrimination claim under Title VII.
According to The Guardian, the ruling also addressed Daniels’ disability discrimination claim. She alleged that a wardrobe manager rolled a heavy clothing rack over her foot and pushed her, causing an ankle injury. Daniels said she continued working while limping. Aenlle-Rocha acknowledged the pain she described but determined that the injuries did not meet the legal definition of a disability under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Daniels’ attorney, Ron Zambrano, said he was disappointed with the ruling. He argued that the evidence should have been considered by a jury, particularly because the case involved disputed facts and the broader workplace environment. He also disagreed with the judge’s finding that Daniels’ ankle injury did not meet the ADA’s legal standard for a disability. Zambrano said the legal team was considering its next steps.
Lizzo responded to the ruling on Instagram, thanking her lawyers and writing, “I prayed for the truth to come out and thanks to my incredible lawyers, the truth has prevailed.” Daniels’ lawsuit came after a separate case filed by three former backup dancers in 2023. Those dancers accused Lizzo of sexual, racial, and religious harassment, allegations her team has denied. A judge dismissed a fat-shaming claim from that lawsuit in December 2025, but the broader case remains ongoing. Lizzo has previously said she plans to continue fighting the remaining claims.
