Florida Black Teen Graduates With 4.6 GPA, Accepted into 36 Colleges With Over $1M in Scholarships

Londyn Muhammad

Nationwide — Londyn Muhammad, an African American standout senior at Atlantic Coast High School in Jacksonville, Florida, has achieved an extraordinary milestone—earning acceptance to 36 colleges and universities and securing over $1 million in scholarships. With a sharp focus and unwavering determination, she has made her family and school community proud.

According to News 19 WLTX, Londyn is originally from Jackson, Tennessee, but moved to Jacksonville at the start of her freshman year. Her father, Shamond Scales, said the transition wasn’t easy, especially adjusting to the faster pace of both the education system and the city’s culture. But Londyn rose to the challenge, maintaining a weighted 4.6 GPA and accumulating numerous accolades, including being crowned “Miss Atlantic Coast High,” receiving the school’s principal’s award, and serving as senior class president.

Her father describes her as exceptionally driven, even from a young age. “By middle school, we noticed she was different. Her consistency and focus were unmatched,” Scales told First Coast News. He added that her academic excellence is matched by her ambition to succeed in a highly specialized field: forensic accounting.

Londyn has been methodical in narrowing down her college options, knowing that not every school offers her intended major. While her dream school is Washington University in St. Louis, she’s made a verbal commitment to the University of Kentucky for now, as she awaits a final decision from the private institution.

One of Londyn’s most significant achievements was earning the prestigious Gates Scholarship, which provides $90,000 annually for five years. With this award, nearly every college in the U.S. became a viable option. Out of roughly 48,000 applicants, only 1,500 were selected—Londyn among them.

Before receiving the Gates Scholarship, she already had enough scholarship offers to cover full rides to several universities. Some of the institutions that accepted her include the University of Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Florida State, Alabama, and Auburn, showcasing the wide array of opportunities she has worked hard to create.
