Megan Thee Stallion Opens Up About Breakup with Klay Thompson 5 Months Later

Nationwide — Megan Thee Stallion has opened up about the difficult period following her breakup with NBA star Klay Thompson, revealing that the experience left her feeling like she had lost part of herself. Five months after their relationship ended, the rapper said she is focused on finding herself again and understanding what she will and will not accept from a partner.

In a recent interview with InStyle, the 31-year-old rapper described that time in her life as “very rough.” When asked how she was doing, she said she was trying her best and compared the experience to being put through a washing machine and dryer filled with “tins, shovels, and a cactus.” She also reflected on how she had tried to make a relationship work even when parts of it no longer felt right.

Megan said she eventually realized she had been trying to fit herself into someone else’s life and was beginning to lose her sense of identity. She explained that feeling constantly uncomfortable or on edge helped her recognize that something was not working for her. Now, she said she is in a different place and is focused on getting back to who she was. “You will not disrespect me. And you will be thankful. Period,” she said.

That lesson has also shaped what she wants from future relationships. The rapper said she does not want to give up her career, independence, or personality for a partner. She loves making music, performing, creating videos and connecting with her fans, and she does not see herself living a life where she stays at home all the time. She also made it clear that she wants an equal relationship rather than one where she has to take a back seat. “I cannot be minimized,” she said. “I will not be behind any man.”

The breakup became public in April when Megan accused Thompson of cheating on her. She said she had supported him through difficult moments during his basketball season before questioning why he was unsure about being monogamous. She later confirmed that she had decided to end the relationship, saying trust, fidelity, and respect were non-negotiable for her. She said compromising those values left no real path forward and that she wanted to focus on herself with “peace and clarity.”

Looking back, Megan also addressed the effect that betrayal can have on a person’s confidence. She said someone else failing to recognize a person’s value does not make that value disappear. She also stressed that cheating is not proof that someone is less attractive or less worthy. Since becoming single, she said she has noticed a positive change in herself. She described enjoying her own company and feeling happier, even joking that she has been outside “twirling in the grass” and appreciating the day. For now, she appears focused on maintaining that sense of freedom while being more selective about what she accepts in a relationship.
