Black Mom Demands Answers After Her Son Attacked by White Teens in Brooklyn

Monique Whyte

Nationwide — A 16-year-old African American teen was brutally attacked by a group of white teens at a Brooklyn subway station, and his mom, Monique Whyte, is now demanding justice. The attackers reportedly threw banana peels, used racial slurs, and later posted photos of the beaten teen online.According to Fox 5 NY, the attack happened on March 24 at the Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue station. Police say the group assaulted the teen on the platform, threw objects at him, and stole one of his shoes. A video of the incident briefly appeared on Instagram before it was taken down.

The victim’s mother, Monique, voiced her anger, saying, “He didn’t deserve that. These thugs are terrorizing Black children in this neighborhood. I want something done.”

She also questioned why her son was targeted, stating, “A video circulated of my son being brutally attacked. Not once, but twice, in this train station. And I have questions. I wanna know why. They threw a banana at him. It hit him in his face. The beat him… they posted pictures of him on the floor.”

The victim initially declined medical attention but later sought treatment for head injuries at NYC Health + Hospitals/South Brooklyn Health.

Police arrested two suspects, a 16-year-old and a 14-year-old, who face multiple charges, including hate crime-related offenses. The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force is continuing to investigate the assault, urging anyone with information to come forward.
