Manhattan, NY — E’Dena Hines, the 33-year old step granddaughter of actor Morgan Freeman was reportedly stabbed to death in Manhattan early Sunday morning. Police say they responded to a call of a stabbing just before 3 a.m. in Washington Heights, New York.
When officers arrived, Hines was reportedly lying in the street with multiple stab wounds in her torso. She was then rushed to Harlem Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Freeman said in a statement: “The world will never know her artistry in talent, and how much she had to offer. Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace.”
Hines was the granddaughter of Freeman’s first wife, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw, whom he divorced in 1979. He brought Hines with him to the Golden Globe Awards in 2005, which started rumors that the two were dating, but he denied those rumors.
In her personal life, Hines was a former student of New York University’s Graduate Acting Program. She also taught under-privileged youth in her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee.
