R. Kelly May Get New Trial Date in December Due to the Pandemic

R. Kelly in prison

Chicago, IL — R. Kelly is set to find out when he will stand trial on sexual assault charges by December, according to reports. It comes after delays that were caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kelly’s trial should have started on Tuesday in Chicago but was postponed since the witnesses had problems attending the trial due to the travel restrictions during the pandemic.

District Judge Harry Leinenweber said at a hearing held through a phone call that he will be setting a new trial date for Kelly’s sexual assault charges on December 16.

Vadim Glozman, one of Kelly’s attorney, tried to ask for an immediate trial date but was denied because of the non-availability of courtrooms.

Kelly is still behind bars at Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago after being refused bail for 6 times. Another one of his lawyers, Michael Leonard, is trying to seek bail for the 7th time, following a stabbing attack on Kelly in August by another inmate.

Moreover, R. Kelly is also facing other charges in other cities such as federal racketeering in Brooklyn, New York which has also yet been set with trial dates.
