Chicago, IL — R. Kelly, who has officially been charged with sexual assault, was released from prison after spending no more than 3 days behind bars. He was released from the Chicago’s Cook County Jail on Monday afternoon after he posted bail.

Kelly turned himself in to Chicago police on Friday following his indictment. The judge set his bond to $1 million. Kelly was able to post $100,000 — 10 percent of the bail required for him to be allowed to leave jail — on Monday.

Kelly was indicted on 10 counts of aggravated sexual abuse of four females, in which three were underage at the time of the assault. The judge assigned to the case described the accusations against him as “disturbing.”

Kelly’s attorney, Steve Greenberg, pleaded guilty on his behalf. He claimed that Kelly is “an innocent man,” and that “all the women are lying.”

As part of the indictment, he was not allowed to contact the alleged victims, witnesses, and anybody under the age of 18. He is also prohibited to carry firearms and was forced to surrender his passport.

Each of the four charges against him has a maximum sentence of up to ten years.

For now, Kelly is out on bail and is able to walk free until his next court hearing which is scheduled for March 22.
