Rapper Fetty Wap Has No. 1 Album in the Country This Week

Fetty Wap

Nationwide — According to Nielsen Music, Rapper Fetty Wap has crowned the Billboard 200 albums chart with his self-titled debut studio album selling more than 129,000 equivalent album units in the week ending October 1.

His success follows a series of three hit singles earlier in 2015 that were all top 10s on the Billboard Hot 100. These were “Trap Queen” (peaking at No. 2), “679” (No. 6) and “My Way” (No. 7).

Fetty Wap is actually the first hip-hop act to have their debut studio effort hit the number one spot on the Billboard 200 charts in over two years. The last hip hop artist to accomplish this was A$AP Rocky, who topped the Bilboard 200 albums chart on Feb. 2, 2012 with Long.Live.A$AP. That album sold 138,000 copies in its first week.

Fetty Wap, whose real name is Willie Maxwell II, is a native from Paterson, New Jersey. He began taking interest in music in 2013, and by 2015, he already had 3 songs on the top 10 Billboard chart. He says he start singing because he “wanted to do something different”. He recently won the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards’s “Artist to Watch” award.
