23-Year-Old Woman Accused of Killing Her Boyfriend After Going Through His Phone

Tatyana Evans shot her boyfriend out of jealousy

Nationwide — Tatyana Evans, a 23-year-old African American woman, was arrested and charged with murder after allegedly shooting her boyfriend, Geovanni Montague, 28, in Harris County, Texas. Authorities say the incident stemmed from jealousy after Evans found text messages from another woman on his phone.

“Montague and Evans were reportedly involved in a volatile relationship,” Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, told WLBT. On February 9, Evans reportedly confronted Montague after discovering messages from another woman on his phone. The confrontation escalated, leading to a fatal encounter the following day.

Montague, a decorated Army veteran, was found outside his home with multiple gunshot wounds. He had been living with his mother and was working for Amazon at the time of his death.

Evans was taken into custody on February 11. Her bond was set at $250,000, and she is scheduled to appear in court on April 3.

Jealousy is a key factor in many domestic violence cases. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, about 30% of intimate partner homicides are linked to jealousy or possessiveness. Studies also show that romantic jealousy is a leading motive behind violent crimes in relationships.
