“That’s So Raven” Actor Sentenced to 30 Months in Prison for Firearm Possession

Bobb'e J. Thompson

Nationwide — Actor Bobb’e J. Thompson, who was known for his role as Stanley on That’s So Raven, has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm as a convicted felon. The 30-year-old actor received the sentence after a 2025 traffic stop in Iowa led police to a loaded handgun and marijuana.

The case dates back to Sept. 22, 2025, when police stopped Thompson in Cerro Gordo County. Officers said they had clocked him driving 104 mph in a 70 mph zone. As an officer approached the vehicle, police said Thompson and his passenger switched seats. Officers also reported smelling marijuana coming from inside the car.

A search of a backpack Thompson was carrying turned up a .40-caliber handgun and several bags of marijuana bought from a dispensary, federal prosecutors said. The handgun was loaded with a 15-round magazine and had an additional round in the chamber. Authorities later determined that the weapon had been reported stolen from a vehicle in Kansas City, Missouri, according to the Daily Mail.

The gun possession charge was especially serious because Thompson had previous felony convictions. Federal authorities said he was convicted in 2020 of battery causing serious bodily injury and assault with force. He also had a 2022 conviction for prohibited firearm possession. Because of those convictions, he was prohibited from legally possessing a firearm when officers found the handgun during the traffic stop.

After completing his 30-month federal sentence, Thompson will remain under supervised release for three years. Federal officials also pointed out that the federal prison system does not have parole. He was being held by the U.S. Marshals Service while awaiting transfer to a federal prison.

Thompson began his acting career as a child and built a long list of television and film credits. He appeared as Stanley in 10 episodes of That’s So Raven between 2004 and 2006. He later appeared on Wild ‘N Out, The Tracy Morgan Show, 30 Rock, For Better or Worse, and House of Payne. His movie credits include School Dance, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Shark Tale, Knucklehead, and Columbus Day. His recent projects include the 2026 film The Funny Thing About Love, the 2024 short film Hot Girl Getaway, and the 2021 TV movie Miracles Across 125th Street.
