Black Postal Worker Sady Dies After Her USPS Truck Overturned in Two-Vehicle Crash

Tinisha Cade

Nationwide — Tinisha Cade, a 40-year-old African American postal worker from DeKalb County, Georgia, tragically died after her USPS truck overturned during a two-vehicle crash in Decatur. The truck flipped on impact and trapped her underneath, and she died at the scene.

Police said the crash happened around 7:11 p.m. on April 27 in the 3700 block of Larkspur Terrace. A passenger vehicle turning from Iris Lane onto Larkspur Terrace struck the USPS truck, causing it to roll over.

According to 11Alive, witnesses said they heard a loud bang and rushed outside to find the mail truck on its side. One driver was seen screaming in the street while Cade remained pinned under the vehicle as emergency crews arrived.

The DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed her death but said it is still working to determine the official cause and manner. Investigators continue to review what led to the crash and whether any additional factors played a role.

USPS released a statement saying it was deeply saddened by the loss of a postal employee. The agency also said it will provide counseling services to staff at the Decatur Main Post Office while the investigation continues.

Cade’s family described her as caring and generous, saying she always supported her children and often put others first. She had been looking forward to her daughter’s high school graduation this year.

Antoine Fortson, who shared a child with Cade, said she leaves behind four children and a grandchild, with another grandchild on the way. He said he now faces raising their children without her.

A neighborhood HOA president said she was near the area when the crash happened and saw the aftermath shortly after. She also said another crash had recently occurred on the same street and renewed calls for speed humps to improve safety.

Police have not confirmed whether speed contributed to the crash. The investigation remains ongoing as officials piece together the full sequence of events.
