Nationwide — Police are continuing their search for the people responsible for killing Ina Chambers, a 55-year-old African American grandmother from East Point, Georgia, outside a funeral home six months ago. Investigators said the case remains active as they work to bring answers to her family.
Police recently returned to Gus Thornhill Funeral Home to review the scene and retrace the events surrounding the January 9 shooting. Authorities said they are still following leads but have not made any arrests, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.
Chambers was attending a viewing with her daughter and grandchildren when gunfire erupted outside the funeral home. Investigators said a vehicle entered the property through a back gate, drove between parked cars, and stopped near a water fountain before someone inside fired shots.
Police said Chambers tried to protect her grandchildren when the shooting happened. She was killed in the attack, and the gunfire also damaged a nearby vehicle and a home.
Authorities have not released information about the suspects, including their descriptions, the number of people involved, or a possible motive. Police said they are asking the community to come forward with any information that could help solve the case.
East Point Police Sgt. J. Shareef said investigators have not forgotten about Chambers’ death and remain determined to find those responsible. “Those responsible. We have not forgotten about this. We will not let this rest,” Shareef said.
“We are not asking you to help because you like the police,” Shareef added. “We are asking you to help because you are human being. We want to get this out there and solve this case and give the family justice.”
Anyone with information about Chambers’ killing is urged to contact the police. Authorities said tips can be submitted anonymously.
